Born in August of 1926, Ruth Sneed was dedicated to education. Ruth Sneed graduated from high school in Centerville, Texas and completed college in three years at Sam Houston State Teachers College. She began her teaching career in Alto and Zavala, Texas. She remained in education for 40 years from 1946 until 1986. She worked for Alief ISD for 15 years. She worked as a diagnostician at Hastings High School from 1974 - 1986. She retired from education in 1986 and spent reirement as a volunteer with Memorial Southwest Hospital. Ruth Sneed was the mother of five children and passed away from cancer in 1989. Sneed Elementary was named for her at it's opening in the fall of 1990.
